Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Washington, Connecticut, Chas Hollinger grew up immersed in the world of boarding schools. He attended The Frederick Gunn School, an institution with which he has deep family connections, and brings to his work at St. Paul’s School extensive experience as an educator, coach, and residential faculty member.
Mr. Hollinger earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and government from St. Lawrence University and a master’s degree in Painting from Western Connecticut State University. Before coming to St. Paul’s, he taught drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics at Canterbury School in Connecticut. In addition to his work in the classroom, he coached soccer, wrestling, and crew, and served as both Fine Arts department chair and a dorm head.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Hollinger is an avid painter who enjoys working outdoors. He also loves cooking, gardening, hiking, playing and watching rugby, and spending time tackling hands-on projects. He lives on campus with his wife, Kelly Slonaker, and their two cats, Boo and Scout, who are named after characters from To Kill a Mockingbird.
