Dr. Elena Bonmatí received her B.A. and her Master’s in Teaching from the University of Alicante (Spain), her M.A. in Spanish from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and her Ph.D. from the University of Miami. In addition, she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
Her experience ranges from teaching secondary education in Spain to teaching university-level courses at various institutions (Manchester Metropolitan University, Lincoln University, University of Tennessee and the University of Miami). Before joining the St. Paul’s School community, Dr. Bonmatí was an assistant professor at The College of Idaho, where she taught elementary and intermediate Spanish language courses and oversaw the heritage language program. At the advanced level, she taught Peninsular and Latin American literature and culture courses, as well as film studies. In addition to her teaching, she led a study-away program in Spain, and she served as faculty chapter adviser for Alpha Beta Pi (Sigma Delta Pi–National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society) and the Spanish Club.
Dr. Bonmatí grew up in a small Mediterranean fishing village in Spain. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and swimming. She is passionate about teaching, writing and reading, and she is a lifelong learner.
