Dear Alumni,

You are truly a unique group of people and I am honored to spend time with you. In recent weeks, I have seen your composition performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra (Gusty Thomas '82), watched you run a senate campaign (Alan Khazei '79 and his many SPS helpers), heard you talk about renewable energy (Richard Kennelly '83, Laura Bartsch '86, Helen Fairman '86), read your poetry (Heidi Erdrich '82, David Oprava '91), shared your activism (Friends of GSA), learned of your work in Afghanistan (Ted Achilles '54) and joined you to sing kirtan*. I love my job.

At Anniversary, we honor alumni (or an alumnus/a) with the Alumni Association Award. The award description is as follows: "The Alumni Association Executive Committee has established the Alumni Association Award, to recognize and honor those members of the Association who have been a credit to the School and its teachings. Its recipients will be those living alumni who, through outstanding service, have improved the quality of life in a community on a local, national, or global level."

Please nominate alumni who are deserving of the 2010 Alumni Association Award. The deadline for nominations is November 30 and you may nominate candidates simply by writing to me at tabramson@sps.edu with their name, a short description of their accomplishments, and why you have nominated them. Alumni Association Award recipients are selected by a group of Past Presidents and Executive Directors of the Alumni Association.

I am ever thankful for the good work that SPS alumni are doing all over the world every day.

Yours truly,

Tina Pickering Abramson '82

Director of Alumni Relations

*A form of singing/chanting the names of Hindu deities in a call and response format, a ancient practice that is finding new expression in the yoga movement today. Tom Lena ’84 performed kirtan last Friday night right here in Concord, NH!

Alumni Speakers in Millville
St. Paul's has a diverse and accomplished group of alumni and parents whom we often invite to the grounds to visit with students and offer their expertise and personal stories. Alumni and parent speakers are typically invited to visit if they fit within the School’s strategic planning area or are co-sponsored across several program areas. For example, on November 4, the Alumni Office, Eco-Action, the Environmental Stewardship Office, the Pew Foundation, and the Environmental Defense Fund are sponsoring a clean energy forum to discuss bio fuels, solar, and the green economy with four alumni/parent speakers. On November 6, the Chaplaincy has invited Sam Beard ’57 as the keynote speaker for the Northeastern Independent School Spiritual Council (NISSC), which was founded five years ago by the Reverend Michael Spencer, our Dean of Chapel. For more information on alumni speakers scheduled for this year, click read more.
Alumni Leadership Weekend
The Alumni Association provides the School with passionate volunteers who are willing to serve on our boards and committees, represent the School across the globe, and coordinate the efforts of their forms. Alumni Leadership Weekend, held this year over the weekend of October 2, was an opportunity to bring together many of these volunteers who share their talents by working for the School in various ways.
Are You on Facebook?
We are! The St. Paul's School Alumni Facebook page was virtually launched in Millville at Volunteer Leadership Weekend. As the page went live on October 3 in Coit, even the audience in the Upper, family of the volunteers, and alums in other states and countries posted on the wall right then and there. Read more and become a fan!
Alumni Horae Preview
Much has changed in the 60 years since eventual Mitsubishi Chairman Minoru B. Makihara arrived at St. Paul’s as the first Seikei Scholar from Japan, but one thing has not – the exchange program between these two schools at opposite ends of the world continues to thrive. Celebrate six decades of vibrant international exchange in the fall issue of Alumni Horae.
