How to Apply: Application Process

Applying to St. Paul's is easy! These are general guidelines to help walk you through the application process.  Our efforts to reduce paper waste are ongoing.  To that end, we are no longer printing or mailing paper applications. There are two ways to apply: online or by using PDF printouts (all forms can be found at right). We have no preference for either method, so please do what feels most comfortable for you.

After Step One, complete the next steps in the order that makes the most sense for you. Good luck!

Step One: YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS STEP before all others. This step firmly places you in our database and enables us to send you our Viewbook, admissions materials, news and updates throughout the season. If you have not already provided the Admissions Office with your contact information and special interests, please complete the online inquiry form or call us at (603) 229-4700.

Step Two: Complete the Candidate Profile (Application Part I).  The Candidate Profile is accepted by several schools and hosted at gatewaytoprepschools.com. Submit the Candidate Profile and the application fee to us online or download the PDF form and mail it and the application fee to us. Our application fee is $50 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants. If you are mailing your application fee, please be sure to include the Application Payment form (at right). If you wish to request a fee waiver, contact the Admissions Office at (603) 229-4700.

Step Three: Call the Admissions Office at (603) 229-4700 to request an interview. NOTE: You may schedule an interview at any time, even if you have not submitted the Candidate Profile.

Step Four: Register to take the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT). Registration information, test dates, and additional information can be found at http://www.ssat.org/. It is best to arrange to take the SSAT in either November or December, but SPS will accept scores from any period within one year of the application deadline of January 15, 2010. If for some reason you cannot take the SSAT, we will accept ISEE scores. (Students applying for 11th grade may submit SAT or PSAT scores.) In addition to these tests, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) should be taken in by students for whom English is not the first language.  To have your scores sent directly to St. Paul's, please use the following codes: SSAT: 6886; ISEE: 300110; SAT: 300110; and TOEFL: 2342.

Step Five: Complete the Candidate Personal Statement and Parent Personal Statement (Application Part II). You may complete this online at gatewaytoprepschools.com or by printing and mailing the PDF form.

Step Six: Print out the following recommendation forms and submit to the appropriate person (along with a stamped envelope addressed to St. Paul's School Admissions Office) for return via regular mail:

  • Teacher Recommendation Form – to be completed by a current teacher of your choice.
  • Math Teacher Recommendation Form – to be completed by your current math teacher.
  • English Teacher Recommendation Form – to be completed by your current English teacher.
  • School Report Recommendation Form – to be completed by your current school's guidance counselor or principal.
  • Optional Recommendation Form – to be completed by an adult who knows you well outside of school.
Step Seven: Periodically review the application checklist to be sure you have taken care of all the necessary pieces.

Step Eight: If you are applying for Financial Aid, please refer to the checklist included in the financial aid packet.

OPTIONAL for Athletes: Send a recorded sample of a recent game or competition to Mr. Craig Vandersea, Athletic Department, cvandersea@sps.edu. Be sure to indicate clearly what sport(s) you play.

OPTIONAL for Classical Ballet Dancers:

OPTIONAL for Musicians: Send a Mac-compatible CD or DVD of your work with one or two selections, 6-10 minutes in length, to Mr. David Seaton, SPS Music Department, dseaton@sps.edu.
