Residential Life : Community Outreach
As an expression of the School’s commitment to developing virtuous and responsible students within a diverse environment, the School requires a period of service to the community for all students. Community outreach presents students with an extraordinary opportunity to learn about themselves and others, allowing them to use their gifts and talents to serve the greater good. The Community Outreach program is the "service-arm" of the Chaplaincy, putting the values of our School prayer into action. For many, these opportunities for outreach are a complement to the "inreach" which many students participate in as members of our residential community (tour guides, peer tutors, dorm jobs, etc.). St. Paul’s School, in keeping with its mission to educate the whole person, has made community service a graduation requirement for its students. The School has also woven community service into many aspects of students’ daily lives; interscholastic sports teams do community service as a team one afternoon every term; at least one course in each academic department has a service-learning component; returning students can opt to participate in an intensive service project in lieu of athletics for one term each year; and School-sponsored service trips go out during break times.

In addition, many students choose to spend part of their free time doing service in the Concord community or raising money for worthy causes. The Missionary Society, the largest and oldest student-run School organization, coordinates and oversees these efforts together with the Community Outreach Program office on campus. Opportunities are numerous and well publicized, and between the integrated and the optional programs, as well as service they might choose to do at home over break times, students have little difficulty completing their required community service hours. Indeed, it is not at all unusual for students to surpass them by a wide margin.
