 | ". . .Founded in the Episcopal tradition, St. Paul's School models and teaches a respect for self and others; for one's spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being; for the natural environment; and for service to a greater good." (School Mission Statement)
Grounded in its heritage as an Episcopal School and the intellectual inquiry of Anglicanism, St. Paul’s honors the integrity of religious faiths and perspectives. We are a pluralistic and inclusive community, where the commitment to spiritual health and wholeness is a hallmark of our holistic education. Embracing a dynamic, collaborative, and integrated approach , the Office of the Chaplaincy supports the spiritual life of the community not only through worship, but also through education, pastoral care, and opportunities for service. The Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul serves as a visible focal point of community life. We gather in chapel four days each week to hear addresses, meditations, student reflections, prayers, and readings from sacred texts of all the world's religions. The Chapel welcomes people from all backgrounds and religious traditions: people of faith from around the world, those who are searching for spiritual meaning, those who embrace a secular worldview, and Christians from all denominations.
Within the academic curriculum, the offerings of the Humanities Division incorporate the study of religion and include religious studies electives that promote religious, moral, and ethical discourse. St. Paul’s provides many opportunities on campus – both formal and informal – to nurture religious and spiritual life. Our active School Vestry oversees the Episcopal and Christian programming, while a diverse Interfaith Chapel Council coordinates opportunities to learn more about the world’s wisdom traditions. Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Buddhist chaplains and visiting speakers invite students to learn more about their own and other religious traditions within a forum that encourages interfaith expression. Set within the natural beauty of almost 2,000 acres, we celebrate the grandeur of creation and our sacred responsibility to care for the Earth. Committed to nurture the love of learning and, as the School Mission Statement explains, “to engage as servant leaders in a complex world,” we have an active student-led Missionary Society that oversees outreach efforts in the local, national, and international community, and the Social Justice Club supports a passionate commitment to equality and justice.
Whoever you are, wherever you are in your own spiritual journey, we invite you to be part of this dynamic learning community that celebrates the very best of an open and inclusive Episcopal tradition. At St. Paul’s School we strive together, in the words of the School Motto, “to learn those things on earth the knowledge of which continues in heaven."
