Film@SPS offers students the opportunity to pursue all aspects of film production from screenwriting and on-camera performance to directing, crewing, and editing. Courses are designed to cultivate an understanding of the form and function of cinema through hands-on projects, critical analysis, and the study of film theory. We place a firm focus on process over product and emphasize creativity, innovation, collaboration and problem-solving as universally applicable skills that will help students succeed within and beyond the realm of filmmaking.
For students interested in further production experience, Film Lab is a term-long extracurricular that provides an opportunity to delve deeply into filmmaking. Movies are conceptualized, written, cast, shot and edited over the course of the term. Students work with a faculty director to produce a movie that is screened for the broader SPS community then submitted to national and international film festivals.
