Growing up in New Hampshire, Darik Vélez attended the Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul's School and was thrilled to return to join the SPS faculty in 2012. He teaches Physics, Astronomy, and various electives in these subjects including a course developing content for the School’s Science on a Sphere. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Vélez is Head of Simpson House, coaches track and field and club hockey, advises several student clubs, and indulges his passion for musical theater.
Prior to arriving at SPS, Mr. Vélez received a B.A. in astrophysics from Williams College and a master’s in astronomy from Wesleyan University. He has taught high school science and math for over 10 years, including stints at Westminster School and the American International School of Cape Town. He has a passion for international teaching and learning and has traveled to South Africa, Haiti, Afghanistan, South Korea, and China to learn and share his experience with others. His mission is to encourage clever, creative, compassionate and courageous citizens.
He lives in Simpson House with his wife Elizabeth, two lively children, and eternal-puppy Ember.
