Four-legged creatures honored in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi
The drone of bagpipes called students and faculty to the Chapel Lawn for the annual blessing of the pets on Monday, October 8. The ceremony honors St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. A donkey and a Highland cow from Miles Smith Farm in Loudon, N.H., and faculty dogs were among the four-legged creatures to receive blessings from the Dean of Chapel the Reverend Alice Courtright and the Reverend Richard Greenleaf. Toy animals were also welcomed, with students' teddy bears – even a shark, pelican, and unicorn – making appearances.
