Teacher of French

St. Paul’s School announces a search for the position of Teacher of French to begin duties in late August 2021. The Language Department requires students to not only master the mechanics of another language but also to immerse themselves in the arts, traditions, and customs of those who speak it. Under the direction of the faculty – and aided by the multimedia Language Center – students come to understand different ways of thinking and living. The result is a consciousness that is truly global. Extensive offerings are provided in five modern languages – Chinese, French, German, and Spanish – and in Latin and Greek, taught for beginners through a multitude of courses for advanced students.
The primary responsibility will be to teach classes of introductory and more advanced levels of French at the secondary level. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment working with other French teachers, with the faculty of the languages department, and with the broader faculty in advancing the mission of the School and the commitment to teaching and learning in a holistic educational environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching French language and culture and have an understanding of boarding school life. Though the ideal candidate would live in residence on campus, fulfilling other responsibilities in advising, residential duties, and extracurricular activities, the School will also consider those who might be able to cover the teaching responsibilities only or some combination with other faculty duties without living in residence.

For full time faculty, in addition to teaching or administrative responsibilities, faculty at St. Paul’s School are responsible for a variety of activities typical to the boarding school environment, including advising, dormitory association, coaching, committee work and other duties. St. Paul’s School is a completely residential, co-educational secondary school in Concord, NH, affiliated with the Episcopal Church and welcoming to all faiths. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters Degree (or higher) preferred in French
  • Two or more years teaching French at the secondary level and at a variety of levels.
  • Experience in using a variety of technological tools to enhance the learning of French.
  • Lively interest in current pedagogy and scholarship.
  • Demonstrated experience of cultural immersion within countries of the Francophone world is preferred.

As part of residential boarding school, the candidate must be committed to working and living with adolescents and supporting their
academic, social, and emotional growth.
