Event supports financial aid for following summer's class
Dressed in tutus, business suits, and other creative attire (including a banana costume), students of the Advanced Studies Program completed the 11th annual Fun Run/Walk along the SPS cross country course.
The July 23 event began and ended at the Tien Track, with ASP Assistant Director Donny Dickson (SPS ’07) serving as DJ. For the last five summers under ASP Director Mike Ricard (SPS ’89), the event has served as a fundraiser to raise need-based financial aid for students in the following summer’s class. In 2013, the ASP community raised $3,380. The total rose to $7,380 with the generosity of an anonymous donor, who has matched or exceeded the community total since 2009.
“Given that our Annual Fund and endowed scholarships do not cover all of the financial aid we distribute to families, generating this type of income is significant to making sure we extend this [ASP] opportunity to all deserving students, regardless to their family’s socio-economic status,” said Ricard. “While the fundraising component to this event is completely voluntary, it also serves as a great bonding experience for the entire ASP community.”
