The Big Red turned in a stellar performance at the Lakes Region Cross Country Championship on Wednesday, October 31, as both the boys and girls teams took first place. Hosted on the grounds of St. Paul’s, both squads bested a field of top schools from around the region, including approximately 150 male runners and 100 female runners.
Lauren Henderson ’19 starred in the girls race, finishing a full 20 seconds ahead of the next competitor to win with her time of 20:12. Her teammates claimed three of the remaining spots in the top 10 as Linda Pang '21 (20:47) claimed third place, Annie Lee '19 (21:00) followed in fourth, and Amelia Walters '21 (21:47) finished 10th. With a score of eight points, St. Paul’s easily outpaced Holderness (31) and Proctor (33).
In the boys race, the Big Red placed five runners in the top 10, led by Alex Taylor ’21 in third place with a blistering time of 17:33 on the five kilometer course. Running behind Taylor were St. Paul’s harriers Charlie Anderson ’21 in fifth (17:44), Sam Hobbs ‘19 in eighth (18:02), Scott Spurzem ‘19 in ninth (18:03), and Luke Dieterle ‘20 in 10th (18:05). St. Paul’s led the 10-team field with a low score of 25, followed by Holderness with 57 points and Brewster with 63 points.
Next on the schedule for both teams is the New England Championship on Saturday, November 10, at Avon Old Farms.
