St. Paul’s School is internationally recognized for the quality of its academic programs, and since fall 2013, the School has been building an equally comprehensive residential life program to strengthen students’ relationship-building skills and foster their healthy social and emotional development.

The Building Healthy Community (BHC) initiative seeks to support and sustain a safe, healthy, and inclusive community and culture at St. Paul’s School as part of its mission to “educate toward the greater good.” As part of the School’s values-based education, the BHC initiative is broad and interdisciplinary. Its precepts of being kind and living honorably are the focus of the Living in Community (LINC) curriculum – the School’s comprehensive, evidence-based residential life program – and are taught through the academic curriculum, the Chaplaincy, and in advising, counseling, and leadership training programs.

The BHC initiative also augments the School’s traditional relationship-building curricula with an ongoing series of visiting experts who provide research-based education and training for faculty and students. The programs address topics such as the prevention of bullying, substance abuse, and violent behavior, while offering expertise and training in bystander intervention, in building healthy relationships and cross-cultural understanding, and in nurturing empathetic, resilient, and responsible citizens and communities.
