2019-20 Season Outlook
The 2019-2020 Big Red Wrestling team looks to build off of an outstanding 2018-19 campaign that saw the Big Red qualify seven wrestlers for the New England Prep Championship with two wrestlers, current Fifth Formers Will Shiber (195) and Will Thayer (220), advancing to the Prep Nationals.
Leading the team on the mat will be Sixth Form quad captains Will Albright (138), Ike Anderson (182), Alex Rymes (170), and Kenny Ziniti (145). Other returners from last year’s Class A championship lineup are Fifth Formers Orion Griffin (106) Alex Taylor (126), and Kam Oseni (160/170) along with Fourth Formers Drake Adams (152) and Ismaila Ceesay (170).
Also returning to the Big Red are Sixth Formers Julia Livingston (138) and Cam Shaw (160), both returning from their school-year abroad. Other returners from last year’s team include Fifth Former Kash Oseni (152), Fifth Former Khuan Hall (170/182)
The Big Red will also be welcoming several newcomers who are poised to make an impact on the team this season. Fourth Former Declan Casey (132), who missed last season due to an injury, makes his highly-anticipated debut on the mat in an SPS singlet this season. Two other Fourth Formers making their debuts into the starting line-up this season are Osman Heredia (120) and Andy Rymes (145/152). Finally, the starting lineup this year will be anchored by Fifth Former Will Desrosiers (Heavyweight).
The team is excited to welcome a strong crop of new members to the wrestling team, including Third Formers Bayard Plumb, Josh Merriam, Quinn Caryl-Klika, and Ridder Morton. The team also welcomes the addition of Fourth Former Conrad Holmes and his brother Sixth Former Merrick Holmes. Providing support and helping with scoring, video, and other important duties for the team are Fifth Form managers Kaitlyn Bergeron and Isa Young-Figueroa.
This should be an exciting and highly competitive year for the Big Red. While new to the program, Coaches Peter Bergeron and Chase Palanca are excited about the potential and attitude of the team. The team is also excited to have added powerhouse NMH to their regular season schedule, which will be a great test for the starting lineup as they head into the year-end tournament season. The team will also return to the Battle of the Bay tournament right before going home for the Christmas Break.
