Spending time outdoors and carpentry

Ms. Powers earned her undergraduate degree from Wheaton College, where she majored in biology. A four-year starter on the Wheaton women’s lacrosse team, she was named captain during her senior year and helped lead her team to the ECAC Championship. She also received NEWMAC First Team All-Conference honors for her contributions her senior season.

After college, Ms. Powers returned to her high school alma mater, Cushing Academy. As a senior at Cushing, she had received the 1974 Deborah Evans Graduation Award — a distinction reserved for one student who exhibits exceptional commitment and dedication to the community. Returning to Cushing in the roles of teacher, dorm parent and coach afforded her the opportunity to collaborate closely with her cherished mentors and coaches. Her love for Cushing greatly influenced her decision to begin a career in boarding schools.

Before assuming her role at SPS, Ms. Powers pursued a master’s degree in biology at Washington University in St. Louis. Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, she finds joy in spending time outdoors and learning new skills in carpentry.
